- Proactive Creative Process: Cheaper, Faster and More Effective in 2025
Maximize Brand Awareness Brands today aren’t just competing with each other; they’re competing with the entire internet. It’s a critical brand impression whenever someone interacts with your brand, whether through an ad, post, or product page. But in this hyper-competitive environment, being visible isn’t enough. Brands must cut through the noise and create awareness via helpful, engaging experiences that demand attention. Did you know that in 2024, most Americans spent an average of 5 hours and 7 minutes per day on their phones/digital devices? Consumer attention is fragmented across a multitude of touchpoints, from social media to search results to streaming platforms. For brands seeking to fuel growth in 2025, the key lies in shifting focus away from one-off or monthly campaigns and toward preplanned, consistent interactions. Invest in Creative Process Proactively planned marketing goals, including visual and verbal assets, help maintain a company’s core message while allowing for flexibility in visual consistency. Design teams can rapidly produce content with predesigned elements, making it significantly easier to generate visual creative without sacrificing quality or message. A partial example of such a process may be to create a well-written, long-form newsletter each month or quarter. Select graphics used in the newsletter are repurposed for social. Written content from the newsletter is used for blogs and platform articles, and then additionally repurposed into print or digital products for promotion or download. Each asset refers to another to create a loop of interest and activity. One Asset. Many Uses. The Proactive Creative Process. Proactively plan for the entire year to infuse marketing efforts with exceptional value. Create a consistent and multi-faceted strategy that builds brand equity, trust, loyalty, and awareness. (Learn More) How Smart is Your Brand? Many Companies “Shoot Themselves in the Foot” If a company does not value using the expertise and partnership of a professional design agency and primarily seeks a lower cost, the brand will suffer. Other companies may invest heavily in logo design but do not invest in the supporting brand style, messaging, or digital promotions necessary to build brand awareness. Some even make the mistake of using a variety of vendors, sporadically generating projects with conflicting messages or using off-brand art. These mistakes weaken the impact of the brand and the ROI/ROA. (Return on Investment/Awareness) The research speaks for itself: Subpar design can deter customers. Studies have consistently reported that 56% of customers perceive poor design as a negative perception of a brand and its products or services. Be careful that your brand style and messaging are cohesive. Over 60% of potential customers lose trust in a brand when its visuals or message don’t match the website or in-store experience. High-quality, well-designed ads are perceived up to 87% more favorably. Consistent creative across all platforms enhances brand loyalty by as much as 79%. However, scaling creative efforts while maintaining brand consistency across digital platforms is a complex challenge, one that requires time, a strategic creative process, customer psychology, and professional knowledge of the market. Rebecca Rausch, a creative strategist and owner of Neon Lizard Creative Marketing & Design, highlights the importance of proactive planning: “Proactively planning your 2025 marketing to intentionally integrate your primary message and visuals through repurposing is by far the most cost-efficient and effective strategy to build your brand.” (Learn More) Key Takeaways: Consistency Drives Loyalty: High-quality, consistent creative fosters trust and loyalty. Brands must ensure their message and design are unified across every consumer touchpoint. Creative Process is a Necessity: To scale creative efforts while maintaining brand integrity, brands should adopt creative processes and intentionally plan to repurpose art across platforms. Speed Is a Competitive Advantage: Brands that can produce relevant, engaging content at speed will have the edge in a crowded digital space. Find a Creative Partner: Companies who hire professional design teams that embrace creative process are already steps ahead of their competitors. Protect and build a brand that is forward-thinking and effective. Free up your valuable time, maximize your investment, and systematically generate unshakeable brand equity. - Brand Audit 101: Assessing Your Current Brand Health and Identifying Areas for Improvement (Without Getting Lost in the Data)
Is your brand firing on all cylinders, or is it due for a tune-up? What are your brand's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats? (SWOT analysis for short). Periodic brand audits help you gain valuable insights that translate into a 23% increase in brand awareness and a 17% boost in customer loyalty (Source: Marketing Week). Step 1: Define Your Goals (Because Aimlessly Gathering Data is Pointless) Before diving in, establish clear objectives. Are you looking to refine your brand messaging? Maybe you want to understand how your brand stacks up against the competition. Having a defined goal keeps your audit focused and the data you collect relevant. Step 2: Internal Firepower: Dissecting Your Brand DNA (But Not Literally) Brand Values: This is the core of who you are. Is your mission statement clear and inspiring? Do your brand values resonate with your team? Does your team even know your brand values? Analyze how well your internal brand aligns with your external and internal understanding. Brand Identity: Consistency is key! Take a deep dive into your marketing materials (website, social media, advertising). Does your brand voice and visual identity remain consistent across all platforms? Inconsistent branding can confuse customers, leading to a 33% drop in brand recall (Source: Demand Metric). Step 3: The Customer Pulse: What THEY Think Matters the Most. Sorry Cowboy, Your Opinion is Only a Fraction of What Really Matters. Customer Surveys & Interviews: Go straight to the source! Surveys and interviews provide invaluable customer insights. What are your brand's strengths and weaknesses from their perspective? How well does your brand image align with their experience? How much do they understand what you do? Social Listening: Use social media analytics tools to track brand mentions and online sentiment. What are people saying about your brand? Are they raving fans or frustrated followers? Any feedback is good feedback, leave the ego at home. Step 4: Competitive Landscape: Knowing Your Rivals is Key to Beating Them Competitor Analysis: Identify your top competitors. Analyze their brand messaging, target audience, and marketing strategies. How are they positioning themselves? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Understanding your competitive landscape helps you identify opportunities to differentiate your brand and fill the gaps that are not being served. Step 5: Analyze, Synthesize, Strategize! SWOT Analysis: Compile your findings from the previous steps and conduct a thorough SWOT analysis. This will help you identify your brand's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Action Plan: Create a clear action plan based on your SWOT analysis. This might involve revamping your brand messaging, refreshing your visual identity, or launching targeted marketing campaigns. Remember: A brand audit is an ongoing process. Regularly revisit your findings and adapt your strategies as your brand and the market evolve. By making data-driven decisions and continuously refining your approach, you can ensure your brand remains healthy and relevant. Want help or to learn more? - 8 Effective Ways to Market Your Business Online Without Breaking the Bank
As we all know, marketing our business to potential customers is a necessary part of having a successful business. However, cost can cause you to procrastinate...which can be the death of a brand. You have to view marketing your brand as an opportunity to put your name into someone's brain. It may not lead to a sale today, but you will begin to be known, and that alone can lead to referrals, sales and success. The issue with traditional advertising, such as newspaper, radio, and television ads, is that they can be expensive and may produce little or even no return on investment. Advertising online may be a better option. You can track the effectiveness of each advertisement. Then, you can focus your marketing strategies on the techniques that are the most profitable. Plus, there are options for online advertising that don’t cost you any money at all! Here are some free online marketing methods that you may want to consider for your business: 1. Partner up with another expert in your field. Consider joining forces with another brand. You can then offer a more substantial product together than either one of you could offer alone. In addition, you’ll automatically get the attention of both audiences, resulting in more sales and adding more leads to your email list. In the future, these new leads can drive more sales of another one of your products. Partnering on even one marketing campaign can bring long-term benefits to both of you. 2. Encourage user-generated content. If you can acquire user-generated content, your website will grow without you having to create your own content. This type of content also increases your website visitors. Enable comments on your website and contribute to the discussions. Allow visitors to submit their own articles and encourage guest posts from other experts. 3. Affiliate marketing. When you create an affiliate program for your business, you will be getting other experts in your field and the public to send business your way. This can be mutually beneficial, and you will only be paying commissions (after the sale) if the affiliate makes a sale. As with the partnering technique, many of these new visitors will sign up for your email list, even if they don’t buy something right away, bringing you long-term benefits and sales. 4. Be active on social media. There are millions of users visiting various social media platforms daily, so it makes sense for your business to have a presence there. Share funny or interesting images or videos that are relevant to your business. Post insights and valuable information. People pictures get views. You can't show too many. Share your staff and activities. Let your audience know when you have a sale on your products. Give your social media followers coupons or discounts. Encourage engagement by participating in discussions. Ask questions and answer theirs. Run a survey, poll, or contest. In turn, these will then be shared by your followers, increasing your reach and ultimately resulting in more sales of your products or services. 5. Use free online tools. There are plenty of tools online that can help your business. You can sign up for websites that will enable you to create free surveys, or you can use a free online service to send emails to your customers. You do not have to pay a premium to receive top-notch service. 6. Change and reuse old advertisements. Rather than going through the expensive route of creating new articles with every marketing campaign, try reusing parts of an advertisement that worked well. This will save you time and expense. Plus, keeping consistent brand imagery through every ad will help with brand recognition, too. 7. Build an email list. If people are visiting your website, chances are good that they are interested in what you have to offer. Make a form available for them to join your email list and be kept in the loop about future product releases or special offers. Once they’ve signed up for your email list, send emails to these prospects with news and further information about your products. Let them know whenever something goes on sale. Email marketing is one of the best ways to drive sales. Treat your list members like gold, because that’s what they are to you and your business. 8. Create some video content. Video content is incredibly important nowadays, as the younger generation would rather watch a video than read a blog post. If you can create interesting videos, you’ll create interest in your brand. It’s certainly possible to do online marketing without spending money. Some of these methods might take some time and effort to implement, though, before you see profits. For example, it can take a while to build an email list. However, once you have a list, making sales can be as easy as sending out an email to your list. Once you’ve built a social media following, making sales can be as easy as making a post on your social media accounts. If you want to see an immediate ROI, like for a special promotion, you may want to consider paying for ads online. But if funds are tight, be patient as you put these free strategies into place, and soon you’ll have plenty of ways to make immediate sales for free. - Living your "Brandstyle" - the Deets
It is ALWAYS an honor to help design a logo. It is such an important part of a brand and is critical to being taken seriously at first glance, and draws the viewer into who you are as a company. At NLC, we call it living your "Brandstyle." What does THAT mean? It means that you put your values up front to your audience as part of what your brand represents. It means not shying away from what is important to you, so that you can have an impact on everyone who sees and interacts with your business. At NLC, part of our "Brandstyle" involves women's rights. ("Kindness" is the overriding brandstyle we champion, and this fits right in.) Ashes to Exodus is 5013c and has a unique concept in domestic abuse shelters. We were lucky enough to have this perfect partner led to us, and we are thrilled to announce this new initiative and adopt them as our corporate charity partner. What A2E is doing for women who are victims of domestic abuse is so important. Two years of shelter, therapy, healing, education, and spiritual support, a home where women who have been through similar traumas can live together and lean on each other as they heal. A stable, secure, safe place to call home, a place that welcomes mothers with children, a place to flourish, and for the women to discover the beautiful souls they have always been. To celebrate our partnership with Ashes to Exodus, we want to highlight the journey from beginning to end. This is part one. It will show you how NLC works, but also the depth of commitment and thought that goes into a logo and the true partnership it entails for any corporation. We are honored to welcome Ashes to Exodus into our fold as our corporate charity partner for 2025. Our gift to their vision is embracing and sharing their heart with the world. More than a pretty picture But there is more to it than just a pretty picture; a logo needs thought and purpose behind it. It should not necessarily be literal to your product but rather literal to your values, your image, and your voice. That means capturing the messaging first, the full understanding of who you are as a corporation,n and the values you hold dear before you begin your logo or website. The Original Logo The initial logo was fine, although it felt a little chaotic and could be hard to read for some. We all agreed it didn't quite capture the essence of the Phoenix rising from the ashes or the biblical account of crossing the Red Sea. (God can do big things, you know, and helped Moses and the Israelites escape certain death/slavery. A bit similar to the domestic abuse these women endured.) With this in mind, we went deeper and learned Sam's personal story and about what she and her team have envisioned for the future of Ashes to Exodus. It leaves the baggage behind. Ashes to Exodus's goal is to build strong women, to heal the hearts, and provide direction. The logo needed something structured, in Sam's favorite colors, and with her personal strength on full display. Example of initial logo presentation As usual, at NLC, we provide a LOT of logo options. It seems overwhelming, but it allows the client to see a multitude of directions and really clarify for themselves the direction they wish to go. Yes, it takes a bit longer (we still deliver in less than a month usually!), but we feel strongly it is better than just receiving one logo with 3 minor variations, as is the industry practice. In our opinion, that 3 logo scenario always leaves the client with a little FOMO and nervous if they have made the right choice. In less than an hour, Sam had selected the top three logo finalists, and a few days later, after prayer, lots of discussion, and asking random strangers, Sam felt confident in the logo she chose. A style guide and 189+ files later, she is set for life. Her logo is available as designed, as horizontal, black, and white, and then prepared in different ways for use on different backgrounds and in multiple file formats. Files are extremely well organized for easy retrieval. This is why our logos are not in expensive; we go above and beyond every step of the way to make sure that our clients have what they need, even if they choose to use another vendor. We do NOT nickel and dime. Our prices are set, clear, and customized à la carte for every client to make sure we maximize every dollar they spend with NLC. Now it is time for Brand Boards. Unlike some competitors, our brand boards are not just random imagery and colors that evoke an emotion; we prefer to show you the brand in action. This is a much more visual way to confirm the logo selection was correct and also to see it used in different formats. We usually provide three options, but I am only showing one here for expediency. Once the brand board is selected, we are able to move forward on actual files for marketing, events, social, digital, and more. From brochures to slide decks and more. We use the brand board as our guiding light. The style will evolve over time, as that is the nature of the process, and at that time, we will update the style guide if the client desires. Although we are just getting started with Ashes to Exodus, we are feeling like it captures everything Sam and her team hoped to do. Brochure layout This is just the beginning of our support of this incredible charity. Stay tuned for more examples of work and what Ashes to Exodus is doing to help women who are victims of domestic violence. NLC is humbled to be a part of their victory journey. - The Art of Color Psychology in Design: Creating Brand Magic with Strategic Color Choices
In the vast landscape of branding and design, every color holds a secret power—a psychological influence that can captivate, connect, and compel your audience. From the logo on your website to the packaging of your product, the colors you choose speak volumes about your brand and shape the way people perceive it. Let's explore the fascinating world of color psychology in design and discover how strategic color choices can elevate your brand and enhance your marketing efforts. Understanding the Language of Color: Color isn't just about aesthetics; it's a language that communicates subconsciously. Each hue evokes specific emotions and associations, triggering instinctual responses in your audience. For example, vibrant reds can convey passion and energy, while soothing blues evoke feelings of trust and reliability. By understanding the psychology behind colors, you can strategically leverage them to elicit the desired emotional response from your audience. Creating a Memorable Brand Identity: Your brand's color palette is more than just a pretty picture—it's the visual expression of your brand's personality and values. Consider the message you want to convey when choosing colors for your logo and branding materials. Are you a bold and adventurous brand, or are you more understated and sophisticated? By aligning your color choices with your brand identity, you can create a cohesive visual language that resonates with your target audience and sets you apart from competitors. Designing for Impactful Marketing: In marketing, color is crucial in capturing attention and driving action. Whether a social media post or a print advertisement, the colors you use can make or break your marketing efforts. Studies have shown that specific colors can increase brand recognition, improve message retention, and influence purchasing decisions. By strategically incorporating your brand colors into your marketing materials, you can create a cohesive and memorable brand experience that leaves a lasting impression on your audience. Infusing Color into Your Brand Story: Your brand's color palette isn't just a visual element—it's a storytelling device that adds depth and meaning to your brand narrative. Think about the story you want to tell with your brand. Are you a fresh and innovative startup or a timeless and trusted industry leader? Your color choices can reinforce these narratives, creating a seamless and immersive brand experience for your audience. Remember the magic of color psychology and let it guide your journey to brand success. Want to learn more or get help on creating a brand that resonates with your audience? - Branding on a Budget: Tips and Tricks for Small Businesses to Make a Big Impact
Small businesses often find themselves navigating choppy waters when it comes to branding. With limited resources and big dreams, finding ways to make a splash without breaking the bank can seem like an impossible feat. But fear not, fellow entrepreneurs! With a bit of creativity and strategic thinking, you can build a brand that shines brightly, even on a shoestring budget. Let's dive into some tips and tricks for branding that will help your small business make a big impact. 1. Start with a Strong Foundation: Every great brand begins with a solid foundation, and yours is no different. Before you dive into design and marketing, take the time to define your brand identity and brand message. What sets you apart from the competition? What values do you want your brand to embody? By clarifying your brand's personality and positioning, you'll lay the groundwork for all your branding efforts to come. 2. Avoid DIY Logo Design: Your logo is the face of your brand, so it's essential to get it right. Invest in a professional. Although there are plenty of DIY logo design tools and resources available online, most do not provide any brand governance, check for duplicate or competitor similarities (clip art or stolen design), vector files, or files designed for a variety of use. A professional logo captures the essence of your brand and is critical to being a credible player in the competitive landscape. Prices range from $500+ for most. Make sure you get intellectual rights and full ownership. Ask for horizontal and vertical options, and ask for files in AI, .eps, .png, and .svg at the minimum. A good design firm also provides logos in various ways for use on different brand color backgrounds. 3. Embrace Minimalism in Design: Less is often more when designing. Embracing a minimalist approach saves on costs and helps your brand stand out in a cluttered marketplace. Focus on clean lines, simple typography, and a cohesive color palette that reflects your brand's personality. Keeping your design elements streamlined and consistent will create a polished and professional brand aesthetic without expensive bells and whistles. Your logo does not have to detail everything you do; it must be memorable. 4. Leverage Social Media Marketing: Social media offers small businesses a cost-effective way to reach their target audience and build brand awareness. Use free platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to share engaging content, connect with customers, and showcase your brand's personality. With a strategic approach to social media marketing, you can amplify your brand's message and attract new customers without spending a fortune on traditional advertising. When budgets are tight, it is hard to afford pay-per-click (PPC) Google advertising. ROA, return on awareness is also very important. Google loves activity, I call it getting some “Google juice”. Post regularly with relevant content. This builds recognizability, credibility, and trust. 5. Repurpose. Repurpose. Repurpose.: Put the time in to write a series of six blogs. Schedule them to run for no less than 1x/month for six months. Now, take that content and create an e-newsletter, social media posts, and perhaps a mini-video of you sharing your knowledge. Do this for each blog, preschedule, and go enjoy your free time! 6. Cultivate Brand Ambassadors: Your most valuable marketing asset isn't your budget—it's your loyal customers. Cultivate deep relationships with your existing customers, who will spread the word about your business. Incentivize customer reviews and create opportunities for customer engagement and feedback. You'll grow your business organically by building a community around your brand. Branding on a budget is all about creativity, innovative use of resources, and strategic thinking. By focusing on building a strong foundation, embracing minimalist design principles, leveraging social media marketing, and cultivating brand ambassadors, small businesses can make a big impact without breaking the bank. So don't let limited resources hold you back—dive in, get creative, and watch your brand soar to new heights! Or you can hire Neon Lizard to do this for you! We have multiple clients for whom we do all the above so that they can focus on what they do best. Contact us today! https://www.linktr.ee/neonlizardcreative
- From Vision to Visual: The Story Behind the Ashes to Exodus Logo
Every movement starts with a name. And every name—if rooted deeply enough—deserves a logo that speaks. When we began shaping the visual identity for Ashes to Exodus , I knew we weren’t just designing a logo. We were creating a symbol. A visual marker of what it means to rise from devastation, reclaim your voice, and walk boldly into healing. This wasn’t a project I could trust just anyone with. I’ve known Rebecca and the team at Neon Lizard Creative for over a decade. We’ve worked on projects before and her attention to detail is out of this world. In every project I’ve seen them touch, their creativity is paired with intentionality and heart. Rebecca doesn’t just design —she listens, she captures emotion, and she tells stories through color, shape, and line. As a fellow woman-owned business, her work reflects integrity, care, and a fierce commitment to getting it right . So, naturally, when it came time to bring Ashes to Exodus to life, I called her. I knew she would handle my project with the best care. I had no idea she would adopt us as her corporate charity and donate ALL the design we need to grow and expand our budding 5013c. What a blessing. A Logo with Soul The name Ashes to Exodus carries layers of meaning. It isn’t just poetic—it’s a mission statement. And our logo needed to reflect every bit of that weight and hope. Ashes represent brokenness. Pain. Humility. They are what remain after life has burned something to the ground. In the Bible, ashes mark seasons of grief and surrender—like when Job sat in the ashes (Job 2:8) or when God promised beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:3). For the women we serve, the flames and ashes are real—loss, trauma, abuse, isolation. They are reminders of what’s been taken. But Exodus is about movement. About getting up from the ashes. About deliverance, not just from harm, but toward promise. Just like God led the Israelites out of Egypt, we walk with women out of fear, instability, and shame—and into freedom, identity, and faith. So how do you turn that story into a logo? Neon Lizard Creative found a way. Designing the Journey From our first conversation, Rebecca and her team approached the design with sensitivity and depth. They didn’t just ask what we wanted it to look like—they asked what it needed to feel like. The final logo is more than beautiful. It carries meaning. It reflects transformation , the core of our mission. It honors the faith that fuels us. And it whispers of strength , resilience , and the sacred journey from mourning to joy, from bondage to freedom. It captures the story of a woman rising—not in one leap, but in quiet, courageous steps. Steps out of the ashes and into her Exodus. More Than a Logo Every time I look at our logo, I see more than a brand. I see her . I see the woman walking out her front door, unsure if she’s allowed to hope again. I see the children whose lives will be different because their mother found safety and strength. I see a ministry that stands firmly on the belief that God still delivers . That beauty still rises from the ashes. And I see the fingerprints of a creative partner who understood how much that mattered. To Rebecca and the Neon Lizard Creative team—thank you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for designing with heart. Thank you for helping us tell a story that will speak, even before a single word is read. Stay tuned as we grow and expand. If you would like to be part of our effort, please feel free to reach out. Written by Sam Stading, Founder — Ashes to Exodus Sam@AshestoExodus.com ashestoexodus.com
- 7 Tips for Dealing With Your Nasty Inner Critic
Were you ever about to do something - and then suddenly, that condescending voice inside your head starts talking smack? "Why did you do that? You’re a bad person. No one wants to talk to you. You will never achieve anything in life. You are so stupid. Don't talk, you'll embarrass yourself. You are such a fraud." That negative voice inside your head that judges, criticizes, or demeans you is your inner critic. Your inner critic plays a critical role in how you see yourself and your self-esteem. Inner Critic When you don’t know how to deal with your inner critic, you can feel ashamed, worthless, or low on self-esteem. Imposter syndrome has raised its ugly head. Your inner critic might undermine your every accomplishment. Or it might show up as you enter a room of people you’ve never met before. That harsh inner critic can lead to self-doubt or lack of confidence. When you let your inner critic control too many of your actions, it could hold you back from things like growth, connection, and your full potential. Even though the way we think influences how we behave, those thoughts we have are not always true! If someone feels insecure and believes no one wants to talk to them, how charismatic do you think they will be in social settings? Follow these strategies to deal with your inner critic and take control of your life: 1. Acknowledge and understand. When negative thoughts come up, acknowledge your thoughts. Try to understand the source of where your thoughts are coming from. How old do I feel right now? Why do I feel this way? What are some patterns I recognize? Where do these thoughts come from? How do these thoughts affect my behavior? 2. What advice would you give a friend? If a friend came to you in the same situation as you feel, what advice would you give to them? Many times, we are harder on ourselves than we are with others. 3. Separate facts from feelings. Your brain might be hardwired to think that no one wants to talk to you or that you’re a bad person. But is that actually a fact? Practice sorting through facts and your feelings. What is another, more positive way you could look at the situation? 4. Practice self-acceptance and self-compassion. Replace negative or critical thoughts with accepting and compassionate ones. Have a selection of empowering, compassionate beliefs you can tell yourself instead of succumbing to negative ones. 5. Write down positive thoughts (and successes). When your inner critic comes out, what is it saying? How can you challenge your inner critic? Write down times when people have said positive things about you. Focus on your strengths and what you are good at. If there is some truth to the critic, what can you do to change? 6. Distract yourself when you start replaying mistakes in your head. Have you ever made a mistake and replayed those moments repeatedly? That doesn’t resolve the issue. If you’re ruminating instead of actively problem-solving, distract yourself from those thoughts. Take a walk. Read a book. Listen to a podcast Play a game. Cuddle your pet/child or loved one. Do something to help someone else Volunteer and help others 7. Remind yourself that everyone has an inner critic. Having an inner critic is a human function. It comes from the parts of our brain that evolved to protect ourselves. If you find yourself in a loop of critical thoughts, remind yourself that every human experiences self-doubt at one point or another. Your inner critic does not have to control your life! Taking these steps to silence your inner critic and nurture a more empowering inner dialogue can help you grow and expand your horizons. There’s a difference between that harmful voice telling you that you are not good enough and wanting to improve yourself. Use the tips above to silence your inner critic so you can reach your full potential. ____________________________________________________ Rebranding your business can help add energy and vitality to your company. Knowing your message well, making an impact, and being proud of your presence can help shut up that nasty inner critic and give you some well-deserved confidence! - Crafting a Compelling Brand Story: Why It Matters for Your Business
Having a strong brand is vital. Before you dive into logos, design, or build a website, there's something even more fundamental you should clarify and complete: your brand message. It's the DNA of your brand—the essence and values of your business that should be the cornerstone upon which everything else is built. Let's explain why it's important and how to create a quality brand message. Crafting Compelling Brand Messaging: What's your story? What sets you apart? Your brand message is the answer to these questions. It's the heartbeat of your brand, pulsing through every interaction with your audience. Why It Matters: Think of your brand message as the compass guiding your journey. Without it, you're just wandering. Your message shapes how people see you, how they feel about you, and whether they stick around. It's the difference between "just another company" and a brand people genuinely care about. How to Create It: Dig deep into what makes your brand tick. What do you stand for? What problem do you solve? What are your values? Then, get to know your audience like an old friend. What do they care about? What keeps them up at night? What part of the industry is a constant pain that is not being addressed, and how can you bridge that gap? Use these insights to craft a message that speaks directly to them in a language they understand. Example: Let's say you run a coffee shop. Your brand message might be about community and connection—the smell of fresh coffee and the warmth of shared moments. You might promote a local kid's group and host small business networking meetings. You'd use this message in everything from your website copy to social media posts, creating a consistent vibe that draws people in because they understand what you offer and how you view the world. - The Battle to Be RIGHT:
When Winning the Argument Costs the Relationship In the heat of disagreement, the war that many of us wage boils down to the battle to be "RIGHT." It's a common scenario where we choose the validation of our own views over the health of our relationships. But at what cost? Impatience = Self Importance When someone fails to meet our expectations or see the world as we do, it can trigger an immediate reaction of anger. This might be due to a conflicting political stance, slower pace, different methods of task completion, or even their general demeanor. We might find ourselves thinking, "Why can't they just understand? Why can't they move or work quicker? How can they be so stupid? Why can't they just do it my way?" Their differing attitude feels like a personal rejection — a direct challenge to our identity. It's not. Road Rage • Political Disagreements • Others Lack of Urgency • Refusal to Comply Anger Hurts Upset stems from a deeper place - it is our need to control and feel secure in our environment. When our control is challenged, our response can be disproportionate, leading to emotional upset, which rears its head with insults, belittling, explosive anger, or violence. Control yourself; it is childish not to handle upset with restraint and hurts the other person more than you know. (Note: Violence in any form is never ok, even if it is to an inanimate object!) You Both Share the Desire to Be Heard & Understood On the flip side, the person receiving your frustration isn't just a passive participant in this drama. You may think they are the "cause" of your upset, but they also desire to be heard, validated, and not bullied into compliance. The Blame Game Their opinions, no matter how different, actually do matter. It is 100% possible to hear, understand, validate, and confirm a person's point of view without concession. However, if you both have the egotistical need to "WIN," it can cause each party to defend themselves and play the blame game. Seek Compromise, not Compliance. When we insist on being "RIGHT," we listen to respond - mentally formulating our rebuttal - and do not truly hear what is said. Inattentive listening dismisses the other's perspective. There's nothing more frustrating than carefully articulating your point just to be ignored. Dismissal can be deeply alienating and cause the business or personal relationship to crumble and the emotions to escalate. Genuine active listening allows you to hear what is important to the other party and find a middle ground to soothe the upset. The Cost of Being Right Choosing to stand firm and insist on being "RIGHT" is choosing to kill the future of the relationship. Relationships are not damaged by respectful disagreements but are murdered by a thousand angry cuts - raised voices, physical outbursts, hitting walls, throwing objects, cursing, or name-calling, all of which simply escalate the drama. This type of behavior is nothing more than a grown-ass-adult-tantrum because one wants things their way, period. Grow up for goodness sakes! Step back and evaluate before it goes too far. Stop Gaps In personal relationships, one idea is to institute a silly code word (ie: Fluffy Bunny) that declares that you do not want to continue talking until you have considered and processed what has been said. It is a way to acknowledge that emotions are too high and you love them enough to stop the conversation. Pause to reflect and engage when emotions are calmer. Only discuss again when you are confident that you each can better articulate your points rather than to respond in reactionary defense mode. Writing your points down can help you organize your thoughts and be intentional to share your love as you have your discussion. Ask Yourself In 10 years, will the subject of this argument truly matter? Is it really worth falling on sword of your opinion or lording it over your loved one by having won decisively? Each argument and disagreement chips away at the relationship that once bound two people together. Regardless if you are business associates, friends or lovers, over time, a relationship doesn't just fade away; it's often actively destroyed; murdered by ego and pride...leaving behind only the hollow victory of being "RIGHT." Bravo. The Hard Truth: Accept You are Both Wrong. At the end of the day, you can indeed be "RIGHT." You can win every argument and stand on your moral highground with superiority, but at what cost? You might find yourself alone, surrounded by the echoes of your own self-righteousness. Remember, it takes two people to have an argument, one may be the aggressor but the recipient may react harshly, punish in response, or shut down. None of which is healthy. Everyone needs to accept their role in how things play out. The Hollow Victory of Winning the Battle The battle to be right, when it sacrifices the essence of human connection, is a painful and hollow victory. Instead, let's strive for a world where the victory is measured by the strength and health of our relationships, not by the score of our arguments. Being alone is the true defeat. Although you may never wish to change your position, you can support others in theirs. So they like the towels in squares and you like to roll them up; fold in squares. Why does it matter in the grand scheme of life? Your relationship is far more important than " insert drama here." The antidote to this battle is not in silencing oneself or in losing one's individuality, but in finding common ground. By being intentionally respectful and humble. You can have a differing opinion and still validate another's right to believe as they wish. Prove you can see and fully understand their point by explaining it back to them to their satisfaction. It doesn't mean you concede and fully accept their stand now as your own, it simply means you acknowledge their opinion as valid, and that their feelings and emotions matter to you because you care for them.
